Voted by you the public as winner in the smarten your snapper competition is wave by Yana from Chromatophobic.
Yana wins a snapper loaded with $100 and a free full table at Craft2.0 on October 24th

One of the great things about this cover is it’s see through nature, especially useful with both red and green snapper cards out in the wild.

Yana designed the cover and then using the Laser cutter at ponoko she whipped this nifty cover up using 0.3mm polypropylene
and you thought polypropylene was just warm clothes ;)

If you like Yana’s style you can check out her creations over on ponoko

Yana will of course be at Craft2.0 on October 24th at TheNewDowse in addition to her her Grimlies series of Styx’s, Eriks, Ziks, Snoorks, Rubiks – the Retarded Ravens and Pikelets – the Crazy Piggies. She’ll be show casing some new designs, but what, you’ll have to turn up to find out.

Voting was extremly close so we awarded a prize to the runner up
Amy from Bad Animals and her Pirate Patch
Amy will receive a free half table at Craft2.0 on OCtober 24th

Amy wanted to create a cover that offers convenience and accessibility. Something you can pin on the sleeve of your jacket, your bag – wherever you want – so you don’t have to go digging around in your handbag or pocket to tag on and off. With an extra bonus of looking a bit badass too!

We just loved the flexibility this cover offers as you can just have it anywhere on your person or bag.

and our voter prize goes to Jem Yoshioka
Jem is a Wellington based graphic artist
and you can find out more about her and her creations over at her website http://jemshed.com
Jem gets $50 in Craft Cash to spend at Craft2.0 on OCtober 24th
thanks to everyone who crafted and voted
this was a fun competition to run and hopefully everyone is now a little inspired to smarten their snapper, or get in contact with a crafter for a custom cover.

and stay tuned you never know when Snapper and Craft2.0 might dream up something else for you to dive into

Well everyone often says isn’t nice to receive a birthday present late
after all the partying and fun, it’s a lovely surprise

OK that might be totally untrue,
but I’m using it as a good excuse for this delayed snapper project
which is a happy birthday snapper cupcake, becuase snapper just turned one 20 days ago
so this is a happy 385 days old birthday present for everyone at team snapper

If you want a snapper cupcake in your life it’s a pretty easy project, but it does involve sewing,

I used a sewing machine but this can all be done sewing by hand.

First head over to craftster and check out the cupcake party pattern and instructions created by the very amazing Fantastic toys

then follow the pattern with a couple of exceptions

tie a snapper usb stick to a key/card reel

leave a gap at the top of your cupcake for your snapper usb to pop through

hide the reel inside the cupcake

and you have a cupcake that is also a snapper usb holder

and fyi – a snapper usb looks much smarter than the usb in this picture

now becuase I am 20 days late with my present it seemed only fair to allow everyone who is running late with their snapper entry a bit of extra time.

so the deadline for getting your smarten your snapper entry emailed through is now midday Monday August 31st.
so keep on crafting and email those images of your snapper card or usb cover through to photos@craft2.org

there is a week left in the competition we are running to smarten up your snapper card or snapper USB.

Entries are rolling but there is still plenty of time to turn your idea into reality

You could try something inspired by this project using maps that i managed to whip up in under an hour

what you need

Old Maps

laminating machine & sheets

Needle

Thread

Scissors

cut up two bits of map to the exact size od your snapper card

Place those between 2 laminating sheets (with plently of room around the outside) and send through your laminator

Trim each new laminated sheet about 1.5-2cm larger than the map

place each sheet back to back and using a simple backstitch sew around the map

and you have a nice shiny new snapper cover

stay tuned for Sunday when It’s all about the snapper usb stick which you can buy for yourself now

matched up with a cupcake

bu for now step away from the computer, fire up those crafty brain cells and get creating.

All you need to do is email an image of your snapper cover to photos @ craft2.org and you go in to win a snapper loaded with $100 and a free table at Crat2.0 on October 24th

Spring is in the air
and i know this because in Auckland the pollen count is so high that people are ringing the council about all the yellow on their roofs and cars, only to find out it’s pollen.
Here in lovely wellington daffodils are popping out from the ground and we are catching the bus.
It’s still a bit cold in morning and when you are heading home,
so mittens and gloves are still everyday attire for those in the know.

As such here is a snapper cover for every stylish welingtonist who doesn’t want to fuss with taking their gloves off to hop on and off the bus or to pick up a coffee on their way into work.

What you need
A pair of gloves (i picked my lambswool gloves up at the kirkcaldies and stains sale for $5.50)
Some jersey off cuts
Needle
Wool or Thread
Scissors
Button
Snapper Card

Cut out a rectangle of kitted wool a bit larger than your snapper card – this is your cover
Sew the cover to the top of your glove
- make sure not to sew through to the other side of your glove and leave the top end open
Sew on your button
make a loop on the glove just below the opening of the top end
Slide in your snapper card and keep it safe inside the cover by slipping the loop over the button

That’s just one idea for a snapper cover
and there are more ideas out in this world than snapper cards
so why not enter the smarten your snapper competition to win a snapper loaded with $100 and a free table at Craft2.0 October

Sometimes it’s nice to know what’s inside your bag without having to dig around.
So in the spirit of total transparency mixed with a little upcycling here is

A gone fishing snapper cover for your Friday

First thing up you need some materials
an empty water bottle
a zip
scissors
pen
awl or hand held drill
fishing line
needle
ruler
snapper card

using your snapper card as a guide and a ruler mark out a line on the side of your plastic bottle
cut along the line with your scissors, and if need be trim where you think it’s needs tidying up
wipe off the pen marks
do the same for the other side of the bottle

mark out dots along the plastic rectangles set them 1/2 cm down and 1cm apart
using your needle or craft drill poke holes where you have marked

thread your needle with fishing line and sew on the zipper.
and you have a see through snapper cover
pretty simple really
so why not head out and make one for yourself
or even better why not set those creative impulses firing and dream up somethign to make for our smarten your snapper competition.

all you need to do is make a snapper cover and send some photos of it to photos @ craft2.org.
make sure you read our competition description before you apply.

Hopefully you are having fun getting creative for the Craft2.0 and snapper competition to Smarten your Snapper

In case you are feeling a little unsure where to start fabric is always a good option for any cover

personally I’m a bit of a fan of felt, So here’s a no sew tutorial to make a felt cosy for your snapper card
which you can whip up in less than half an hour
And OK, yes I do have a bit of a soft spot for fake fur

so why not make a monster cosy for your snapper as well, it uses the same techniques

What You Need

some felt, a single rectangle costs about $1 so this is not an expensive project

hot glue gun, i used a low heat gun. If you don’t have a hot glue glue use pva

pen

scissors

snapper card

Cut a rectangle three times the length of your snapper card
make sure to leave about 1 cm extra on either side

Draw a shape for your cover and cut it out

Apply a line of hot glue around the bottom end and sides of the felt, only glue the length of your card, mark the spot with a bit of pen and never use the hot glue near your card, it might get scared if you glue it by mistake

Fold over the felt, sticking it together
you now have a pocket for you card and a flap the length of you pocket

Glue on your shape

Go out and use your snapper in the wild

Get inspired and make your very own snapper cosy then enter our Craft2.0 & Snapper competition and win prizes

make sure you email your entries to photos@craft2.org by August 27th

and then keep an eye out on the Wellingtonista for the public voting from September 1st
