Christchurch Crafters – Black Swan Designs

by sue on May 25, 2009

blackfantail1We are now on the countdown to Craft2.0 Christchurch. It’s less than 2 weeks away and we are extremely excited, and now we get to start sharing with you some of the lovely crafts & amazing people who will be at Craft2.0 on June 6th.

First out of the block is Mel from black swan designs.
Mel will be selling lasercut jewellery with a kiwiana flavour (brooches & necklaces), photographic prints, upcycled teaspoons, and coffee stencils. earrings1

Mel’s been crafting and creating ever since she can remember. She has a crafty Mum who encouraged her passion from an early age, so crafting and design was all rather unavoidable for mel.
She has a Bachelor in Art and Design, and qualifications in computer graphic design and professional photography. Mel first started out selling on felt in 2007 and began to see the potential for making a living doing what she loves, so she put herself through a business course early in 2008 and hasn’t looked back since!

flaxflowerpendant1Mel’s got a slew of things she uses to create with and admits to being lost without her mac and tablet, and digital camera. She’s big on experimenting with new ideas for laser cutting, and also secretly enjoys the many therapeutic hours spent away from the computer screen assembling and putting the final touches on her creations.

Currently Mel’s favourite crafting spot is at the Christchurch Creative Space, on Wed nights and Sun afternoons. The rest of the time she crafts from home, but ideally will have an office and workspace at some point in the future, where she can spread out.photobrooches

Some of the special creations you’ll be seeing for the first time at Craft2.0 Christchurch are upcycled teaspoons, Victorian inspired necklaces, nz earrings and photo brooches.
